Terms of Use

The terms for using Restore

Effective date: 9 October 2026.

Using Restore

By downloading or using Restore you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

Restore is a devotional and emotional-wellbeing app built around Scripture, prayer, journaling and guided growth tools. It is published by NorthStar Ventures (Sole Trader) (“we”, “us”).

You must be at least 13 to use Restore. If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, please use it with a parent’s or guardian’s permission.

Not medical, mental-health or pastoral advice

Restore is a devotional and spiritual-growth resource. It is not medical, mental-health, counseling, legal or pastoral advice, and it is not a substitute for a doctor, therapist, pastor or other qualified professional. Please keep seeing your doctor and keep taking any medication as prescribed, and do not delay or stop treatment because of anything in Restore.

Restore does not watch over what you write and cannot contact anyone on your behalf. The app may show support resources, such as crisis lines, when words you write suggest you may be struggling. That check happens on your phone and no one at Restore sees it. Most of the listed services are US-based, and a worldwide directory is linked. If you are in danger or facing an emergency, contact your local emergency services right away.

Our voice, and your own discernment

We are committed to the Word of God as absolute truth. Jesus said, “Thy word is truth” (John 17:17). The teaching and counsel in Restore are the voice of Restore. They are our good-faith, prayerful understanding of Scripture, offered for devotional use. Faithful believers and churches understand some passages in more than one way, so you may disagree with parts of what you read, and that is allowed. We are not trying to debate or to impose an interpretation, and nothing in Restore is meant to replace God’s Word. We encourage you to test everything against Scripture, pray over it, and seek God and wise, trusted people for yourself.

The prayers in Restore are suggested prayers, a place to make a start and a guide only. You are free to pray in your own words, led by the Holy Spirit. Restore is not a substitute for the Bible, for the Holy Spirit’s leading in your own life, or for your church.

Narration and AI voices

Restore reads prayers, lessons and devotions aloud. The narration is made with computer-generated (AI) voices, not recorded by a real person, and it is read from Restore’s own text. The voice is a tool for hearing the words, not a pastor, counsellor or teacher, and it carries no more authority than the text on the screen. The first time you play a piece of narration, Restore downloads it, so you need an internet connection then; once downloaded it plays without one. Narration may not be available for every piece of content, and we may add, change or remove voices.

Your account, your Journal and your backup key

Signing in is optional. It lets Restore back up your data, and you can use the rest of the app without it. You sign in with Apple or Google, and you are responsible for keeping your device and accounts secure.

When you back up, Restore locks the backup with a key created on your phone (your backup key). We cannot see your backup and we cannot reset your key. Please save your key somewhere safe: if you lose it and your phone, we cannot recover your backup.

Backup is a convenience, not a guarantee. Automatic backup can pause or fail, for example when you are offline or another phone is backing up to the same account, and only your most recent backup is kept. Restoring a backup replaces data in the app on your phone. Please keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose, for example by exporting your Journal where that feature is available. We may change or end the backup feature, and will give reasonable notice where we can.

Your content and our content

What you write in Restore is yours. We do not claim ownership of it, and we get no license to it unless you send it to us.

If you send feedback or a story through Share Your Story, you allow us to read it and use it to improve Restore. We will publish a testimony, under your first name or anonymously as you chose, only if you told us we may.

Restore itself, meaning the app, its design, text, audio and other materials, belongs to us or is used under license or from the public domain. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use it for your own non-commercial use. You may not copy, sell or reuse it beyond that, except where the law allows.

Acceptable use

Please use Restore respectfully and lawfully. Do not:

  • try to break, overload or reverse engineer the app, or bypass its limits or any Restore+ restrictions
  • access another person’s account, backup or data
  • copy, scrape or resell Restore’s content
  • use Share Your Story to send unlawful, abusive or misleading messages

We may suspend or end access if these rules are broken (see Ending your use).

Restore+ and payments

Restore+ purchases, if offered, are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, whose terms also apply. They process payment and handle refunds, and we do not see your payment details. Features described in the app as part of Restore+ may change; features that are free today, such as journaling and cloud backup, are free as at the effective date above.

Third-party services and links

Restore relies on services run by others, including Apple and Google for sign-in and app stores, Google’s Firebase for backup and for delivering narration downloads, Microsoft’s Azure AI Speech and ElevenLabs for the AI narration voices, and Spotify for the music player. Restore also links to outside websites and phone numbers, such as crisis-line resources. We do not control these services or sites, and they have their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for their content or availability.

Disclaimers

Restore is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be error-free, always available or right for every need, or that any backup will always succeed or be restorable. Scripture, prayer and growth content is offered in good faith for devotional use. It is not a guarantee of any outcome, including healing or emotional relief.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be excluded. That includes, where they apply to you, New Zealand’s Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986, the Australian Consumer Law, and EU and UK consumer law.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of data (including a backup that cannot be restored or a backup key that has been lost), or for decisions you make based on what you read in Restore. Our total liability to you for anything arising from Restore is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the previous 12 months and NZ$100.

None of this limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or the consumer rights described above.

Ending your use

You can stop using Restore at any time. To delete your account, open Account settings, then Sign In & Backup, and tap Delete Account. Deleting your account removes your cloud backup and sign-in record, and it can’t be undone. Data on your phone stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. If you no longer have the app, see restorewalk.com/delete-account.

We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, misuse the service, or if the law requires it. We may also stop providing Restore or any feature, and will give reasonable notice where we can. Parts of these terms that should continue after you stop, such as ownership, disclaimers and limits of liability, still apply.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and disputes go to its courts. Where the place you live gives you consumer rights to use your local laws or courts, those rights are unaffected. If you have a problem with Restore, please write to restorewalkapp@gmail.com first so we can try to sort it out.

General

These terms are the whole agreement between you and us about Restore. If a part of them is found unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours if the business is sold or reorganised, and we will tell you. Nothing here makes either of us the other’s partner, agent or employee. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms and are not responsible for Restore or for supporting it. None of this limits your rights under consumer law.

Restore is currently offered in New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada.

Changes to these terms and contact

We may update these terms. We will change the effective date and, for changes that matter, tell you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using Restore after that, you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, you can stop using the app and delete your account, and we will not treat that as breaking these terms.
