Delete your Restore account

You are in control of your account and your data. Here is how to delete it, and what that does.

This page applies to the Restore app, published by NorthStar Ventures (Sole Trader), New Zealand.

If you still have the app

This is the quickest way, and it takes effect straight away.

  1. Open Restore and go to Account settings.
  2. Open Sign In & Backup.
  3. Tap Delete Account and confirm. You may be asked to sign in again so we know it is really you.

If you no longer have the app

Write to restorewalkapp@gmail.com with the subject Delete my Restore account.

  • Please write from the email address your Restore account uses, so we can be sure the request is yours. If you signed in with Apple and chose to hide your email, tell us the private relay address or the name shown on your account.
  • Tell us whether you signed in with Apple or Google.

We aim to reply within 10 working days, and we will delete your account and cloud backup within 30 days of confirming that the request comes from you. We will write to you when it is done.

If you signed in with Apple, you can also remove Restore under Settings, then your name, then Sign in with Apple, on your iPhone.

What is deleted

  • Your cloud backup. This is permanent, and it cannot be recovered afterwards, even with your backup key.
  • Your sign-in record: your account, and the name and email Apple or Google gave us when you signed in.
  • If you signed in with Apple, Restore’s access to your Apple sign-in is ended.

What is not deleted

  • Data on your own phone. Your journal entries, photos and settings live on your phone, where you control them. Deleting your account does not remove them. To remove them, delete your entries or uninstall the app.
  • Share Your Story messages. If you sent us a message, we keep it for up to 12 months and then delete it. If you would like it deleted sooner, write to us and we will do it.
  • Technical logs. Google’s Firebase may keep sign-in logs for a limited time under Google’s own policies.

Moving to a new phone? Restore your backup there first, before you delete your account. Once an account is deleted, its backup is gone for good.

If you joined our launch list

You can leave the list at any time with the unsubscribe link in our email, or by writing to us. We delete the list once the launch message has gone out.
